CE Members See Job Growth, More Capital

capital entrepreneursMadison startups continue to be a cornerstone of the local economy in terms of job growth and capital raised, according to the Capital Entrepreneurs‘ year-end summary of its membership.

In 2016, a minimum of 150 new jobs were created, and CE members employ at least 825 full-time employees.

In addition, tech startups raised a record-breaking $114 million in funding, a 70 percent increase over the prior year’s funding total. Also, 24 companies raised $500,000 or more, including Propeller Health, EatStreet and Ionic.

Work spaces grew, too, as Horizon Coworking and Madworks Coworking expanded, and 100state moved to a bigger location. In addition, Sector67 launched a campaign to fund their new location, and StartingBlock Madison finished its capital campaign and looks to break ground in this year.

On the events side, the annual Forward Festival hosted more than 4,000 attendees over 43 events, while the annual Spring Tech Kickoff saw a record 400+ attendees in the Galaxie Building.
