After graduation, it’s not uncommon to become caught up in the catch-22 of needing a job to gain experience and needing experience to land a job. Farhan Parekh found himself in this situation after graduating from Edgewood College with a degree in marketing. To break out, he followed his entrepreneurial drive and launched an online clothing company in 2013 called Haberdasher.

At a young age, Parekh was exposed to the world of fashion through his father’s garment business. Since that time, Parekh has been brainstorming products and services that evolved into Haberdasher.

“I recall spending countless after school hours and busy weekends at the factory observing every facet of the production of consumer textiles,” Parekh said. “My father’s garment business not only greatly influenced my passion for business but also a fashion business.”

Haberdasher sells styles such as “Urban Classics” (edgy street-wear) and “The Grand” (chic-refined items), targeted toward “fashion-forward individuals” between the ages of 16 and 40, according to Parekh.

The site offers free shipping on orders more than $75 as well as hassle-free returns so customers feel comfortable with their purchases.

According to Parekh, there are many benefits to not having a brick-and-mortar store location at this time.

“I am able to focus on the customer, spend time recognizing the need and provide the best product at the best price,” Parekh said. He has a long-term goal to open a flagship store in Madison.

Haberdasher brand clothing is currently being showcased in a Milwaukee-area boutique.
