Rowheels this week introduced Revolution 1.0, a wheelchair using the company’s patented pull-wheel technology.

According to a release, Revolution will be available in October, and pre-orders start at $999.

The design allows users to propel themselves forward using a pulling action on the hand rims on the wheels. Users also can push the hand rims toward themselves to engage the brakes.

“We have proven the pull-wheel concept and are now poised to disrupt a wheelchair market that is predicted to hit $5.4 billion by 2022 and yet has changed little in the last 140 years,” CEO Gaurav Mishra said in a statement. “ROWHEELS Revolution gives wheelchair users a better option at an affordable price via an e-commerce platform that challenges the inefficiencies of today’s healthcare system.”

Rowheels launched in 2011 and won the Governor’s Business Plan Contest in 2012.
