Startups Get New Facility in Janesville

by Emilie Buckman

Modeled after other successful business incubators, the Janesville Innovation Center at 2949 Venture Dr. is set to open in January 2013.

By providing new and growing businesses affordable, short-term leases, the city sees the incubator as a way to encourage business development and jobs creation, as businesses that leave incubators for more permanent locations tend to stay in the area in which they grew.

The 22,000-square-foot facility offers both manufacturing and office space for local startups. Movable walls separate the productions areas and allow for easy expansion to accommodate the changing needs of the business. In addition to the affordable rent, tenants will have access to technical and business support services.

Currently, the Innovation Center has five prospective companies and an estimated capacity of 13 to 14 businesses. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Dec. 20.
