Herbal Aspect, a cannabis company, has begun production of a new line of THC-free hemp strains under a licensing agreement with the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), the company recently announced.

According to a release, the cultivars, known as Badger G, were developed by University of Wisconsin Researcher Michael Petersen. They are tailored for wellness, agricultural, recreational and industrial applications.

“This is a big step forward for us and for the cannabis economy in Wisconsin,” Herbal Aspect Co-Founder Matt Nelson said in a statement. “We’re proud to support locally developed science through WARF and UW–Madison. Badger G gives us a compliant, high-performing hemp line we can use in a wide range of future products and collaborations—without the legal or logistical barriers of THC.”

The company expects its first harvest of Badger G strains in early fall, with CBG-forward flower and infused products likely appearing in stores by October 2025.

Herbal Aspect will also be opening its fifth Madison-area dispensary at 3868 E. Washington Ave this summer.
