Perry Kivolowitz and Karu Sankaralingam founded KSK Electrics in October 2013, and after almost a year of business, they announced today they’re running a Kickstarter campaign for their virtual studio technology (VST) host called Psyren.

According to a release, Psyren is a computer used for live-sound processing that is designed to look and work like a traditional guitar pedal from the 1970s. KSK is looking to raise $35,000 by Oct. 3 to, among other tasks, improve Psyren’s feature set.

“We (also) wanted to get in touch with a user base of people … and get their feedback,” Sankaralingam, a University of Wisconsin computer science professor, said. “Indirectly this gives us wider visibility of people who are interested in guitar accessories and a product like Psyren.”

In addition, the campaign will provide the funds necessary for manufacturing purposes, Sankaralingam said.

Psyren creates its own WiFi hotspot to which the user connects tablets, laptops or some smartphones. Setting up pedal boards is done using a real-time interactive web page.
