MARKABLE, a fashion technology company headquartered at 100State, announced recently its expansion to Chicago.

With help from a $1.5 million investment led by Cheetah Mobile of China and $400,000 from an additional four investors, MARKABLE opened an office at Life Creative. Six technical employees are working on the programming side of the app in the new location.

“Part of our team was already living in Chicago, including our Co-Founder Fiona Wang,” JJ Pagac, the company’s marketing director, said. “We chose Life Creative because it is another co-working space, similar to 100State, and we’ve found a lot of success in that collaborative environment.”

In addition to the current MARKABLE mobile app, the company is creating a separate app called MARKABLE VIP. This app will be aimed toward high-income users who attend fashion shows. These users will be able to use their smartphones to take photos of styles they see on the runway and pre-order from the designer.

“You can put 50 percent payment down and pay the other percent when it’s shipped,” Pagac said. “The designer hasn’t made it yet–you are literally ordering from the runway.”

MARKABLE has signed exclusive contracts with several Fashion Week cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Paris.

Pagac also mentioned that the company is finding that most high-end programmers are in New York or Silicon Valley, and the team will keep its eyes open for more expansion opportunities.
