by Hailey Eisenrich

The 10th annual Forward Festival, Wisconsin’s largest technology and entrepreneurship festival, is set to take place Aug. 22-29 at various locations throughout the Madison area.

This year’s Festival features more than 50 events, with 37 being new, covering a range of interests from social good to entrepreneurship to bio/health and beyond.

“Since the start of Forward Festival, we’ve really expanded our definition of entrepreneurship and whom that includes,” Laura Strong, festival board member and clinical development director of Exact Sciences, said in a statement. “What makes this festival unique to Madison is that it’s run by our community. The events and what they reflect are meeting the needs of the community right now.”

The festival’s main event, the Forward Technology Conference, takes place Aug. 26 at the Wisconsin Union. The keynote panel, featuring Lisa Calhoun of Valor Ventures, Donnel Baird of BlocPower and Archna Sahay of Sahay Consulting, will discuss how to open access to venture capital funding to more diverse audiences.

The festival kicks off with the Badger Startup Summit (Aug. 22) and includes new events such as a roundtable with Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, who will discuss how to make Madison the best place to start and grow a business.

In celebration of the 10th festival, a Forward Festival bourbon will be created by J. Henry & Sons and sealed for the next 10 years.

Other events include Startup Week(night): Women+ (Aug. 25), Parentpreneur Night at the Museum (Aug. 25) and Data for Impact Conference (Aug. 26).
