Cultured Decadence announced today that it has been acquired by UPSIDE Foods of Berkeley, Calif.

According to a release, the acquisition will enable UPSIDE to complement and expand its product portfolio and accelerate commercialization of a range of seafood products.

“We’ve long admired UPSIDE’s innovation and leadership in the cultivated meat industry,” Cultured Decadence Co-Founders John Pattison and Ian Johnson said in a statement. “UPSIDE’s unparalleled R&D and scale-up capabilities will significantly accelerate the commercialization of cultivated delicious, sustainable and humane seafood.”

Cultured Decadence, which was founded in 2020, will remain in Madison.

UPSIDE Foods, which cultivates meat from animal cells, recently opened a meat cultivating facility known as the Engineering, Production, and Innovation Center (EPIC).
