FUJIFILM Cellular Dynamics Inc. (FCDI) has plans to open a $21 million production facility in Madison to industrialize iPS cell manufacturing for regenerative medicine therapies, the company announced today.

“To meet the growing demand for FCDI’s iPS cell platform, the state-of-the-art production facility will have a flexible cell culturing design to serve production requirements of both industrial quantities of cells and small, diverse batches,” FCDI CEO Seimi Satake said in a statement.

According to a release, the company expects the facility to be fully operational by March 2020. It will support FCDI’s internal cell therapeutics pipeline and also serve as a Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) for iPS cell products.

The exact location of the facility was not disclosed.
