WI Ranks Near Bottom of Kauffman Report

Wisconsin ranks low in the 2017 Kauffman Indicators of Entrepreneurship State Report on Early-Stage Entrepreneurship, the organization announced recently.

The report ranks each state with a Kauffman Early-Stage Entrepreneurship (KESE) score, with Wisconsin ranking -1.29 overall. The score is derived from four normalized indicators of entrepreneurship activity: rate of new entrepreneurs (0.26%), opportunity share of new entrepreneurs (73.27%), startup early job creation (4.17) and startup early survival rate (79.29%).

Wisconsin placed above Rhode Island (-2.93), Ohio (-1.85) New Hampshire (-1.4) and Illinois (-1.36). California had the top score (2.86).

The report is calculated using data from the U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Labor Statisticsas well as the Business Employment Dynamic series.
