WSC Unveils Policy Recommendations

by Taylor Kennedy

The Wisconsin Startup Coalition (WSC), a bipartisan, member-driven advocacy organization formed to support the state’s startup founders and the innovation ecosystem, today announced its 2021 policy recommendations.

According to a release, the recommendations are focused on enhancing the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s Qualified New Business Venture (QNBV) Program, advancing additional state support of investment mechanisms, accelerating investment in building the Wisconsin tech workforce and investing in computer science education in K-12 schools with the Code.org platform.

“Unfortunately, Wisconsin routinely falls to the bottom of the list when it comes to startup activity,” WSC Board Member and Curate CEO Taralinda Willis said in a statement. “The coalition’s platform will help startups like mine create more Wisconsin jobs and advance the state’s innovation ecosystem.”

WSC, which has about 50 members, said it will look to work with policymakers, advocacy groups and industry leaders to promote a growth-focused Wisconsin economy.

Matt Cordio of Skills Pipeline and Peter Welch of the Welch Group founded the coalition.
